We are midway through #Cancerpreventionmonth !
Can you make it a point to move a little more today? Yes, you!
There is strong evidence that higher levels of physical activity are linked to lower risk of several types of cancer. The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes vigorous exercise each week.
I recommend finding several activities you enjoy. Perhaps something you can do inside on bad weather days such as yoga or weights and something you can do with a friend like hiking, walking, cycling or running. Does this sound like way more than what you have time for? Try to fit brief bursts of activity into your day. I used to take quick walks around the parking lot in between patients and at lunch. Sometimes I'd get other clinicians to join me! Ten minute increments add up fast! I always felt sharper and more engaged for taking the time!
Many of my clients find tracking their activity to be motivational. There are many free apps (Pacer is a favorite) and some paid (Peloton) and wearables to track steps/activity.
