Does Sugar Feed Cancer Cells?

One of the most frequently asked questions is whether cancer feeds tumor cells? Congrats and thanks to Santosh Rao, MD and Stacy Shawhan, RD, CSO, LD Shawhan for contributing to such an important article about a topic that causes so much confusion!

I would encourage you to read the brief but powerful article. The simple answer is that glucose is the energy source for all of our cells - even our brain cells! Sugar can contribute to inflammation which can contribute to the development of some cancers. Eating a diet rich in whole grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables is key to prevention. Limiting sugar sweetened beverages and treats is advised. Artificial sweeteners should also be used sparingly, if at all!
