Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day! Have a safe and relaxing holiday! Now is a great time to enjoy the end of summer produce! If you haven't had corn on the cob, watermelon, berries, zucchini, summer squash, juicy plums an peaches, now's your chance! The American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR) recommends 3.5-5 cups of fruits and vegetables a day! It's best to enjoy produce closest to its original form - the apple, not the juice or the sauce. The potato, not the fry. The berry, not the jam!

A recent World Cancer Research Fund/AICR report found that, "fruits and vegetables link to lower risk of mouth, tongue and other oral cancers. AICR research has also found that fruits, vegetables and other foods containing fiber reduce the risk of colorectal cancers."

I was at a big Farmer's Market in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday (my brother is a flower vendor and sells vegetables and herbs to subscribers). His neighbors, Liz and Jeff, sent me home with loads of tomatoes, cilantro, parsley and an apple! My place is on a wooded lot - too shady to do much more than grow some herbs in pots so I was thrilled! Such a treat to have farm fresh produce!
