I couldn't have been more surprised by my genetic test results!

As someone who eats a nutrient dense diet, is physically active and very knowledgeable about healthy sleep, stress management and avoiding toxins, I thought I was on the right track! I'd taken an Invitae test last year (I haven't inherited cancer genes). The test looks at over at more than 130 low penetrance that, together behave like high penetrance genes.

I didn't expect anything life changing and was stunned to get my results earlier this year!

What did I learn? Here's a sample! (I'm happy to discuss in greater detail if you'd like!)

1. Brain Health - Although I'm not aware of any family history of cognitive decline in my family - quite the opposite - my grandparents have lived into their 80s, 90s and to 101 and have been 100% sharp! However, I have the 2 genes associated with Alzheimer's - - notice I said associated - they don't cause it! Thankfully, many of my existing habits are protective - green tea, chia seeds, walnuts, dark leafy greens- but I've also been incorporating more foods rich in Omega-3 fats (wild caught salmon - a big switch since I'd been vegetarian!), prioritizing sleep, eating a Brazil nut each morning, am avoiding certain fats and prioritizing socializing to name a few! I'm so grateful I have this information so that I can take steps to support my brain!!

2. Detoxification - I also learned that I don't detox well. I've been purchasing more of my cosmetics and personal care products from sources that are verified by the environmental working group (ewg.org), making it a point to sweat and enjoying organic matcha. I'm eager to get a mini-trampoline for rebounding which helps the lymph system and have a list of additional changes I'm working on!

3. Methylation - Where are my organic chemistry nerds? A methyl group is a carbon with 3 hydrogens. Genetically, methylation turns off gene expression which is a big deal if it turns off something like a tumor suppression gene! Foods rich in B vitamins, magnesium and choline are protective. I've been eating a lot of raw cruciferous veggies, avocados, nuts...

What has it meant for clients? I'm able to personalize care! They are able to take control. I've worked with clients who've learned their DNA contributes to anxiety, mood/behavior, cholesterol, histamine overload (migraines, dizziness, rashes/hives) and weight management to name a few. I offer free initial 15 minute consultations and am happy to answer questions. Now through August 19, I'm able to offer the test at $50 off!
