Say it isn't so!
In a new article published in Consumer Reports, they found unsafe levels of lead and cadmium in popular brands of dark chocolate. This exposure poses risk to everyone but is especially concerning for pregnant women and young children as it could result in developmental issues.
Dark chocolate that is 70% cacao or greater is where the health benefits, including antioxidants, are present. The article, linked below, found varying levels in the dark chocolates they tested.
This does not appear to be a problem in milk chocolate. However, milk chocolate does not have the same beneficial properties as dark chocolate does.
This is another case of needing to be educated about what you eat and eating everything in moderation.
