#Nationalnutritionmonth Tip #19 Make An Effort to Reduce Food Waste

Check to see what foods you have on hand before stocking up at the grocery store or ordering groceries online. Plan a meal or two to use up the perishable items. I routinely make a stir fry to use spinach, broccoli, tomatoes and any other produce that needs to be eaten. Buy perishable foods you will use or freeze within a couple of days. I encourage people who are working on increasing fruit and veggie intake to purchase frozen for smoothies and soups so that they don't need to worry about them going bad as they establish their routines. Produce is frozen shortly after harvest to maintain nutrients. Managing these food resources at home can help save nutrients and money.
